The Wit and Class of a Filipino

A Filipino walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to the Philippines on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000.

The bank officer tells him that the bank will need some form of security for the loan, so the Filipino hands over the keys of a new Ferrari. The car is parked on the street in front of the bank. The Filipino produces the title and everything checks out. The loan officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the Pinoy for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parks it there.

Two weeks later, the Pinoy returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, "Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?"

The Pinoy replies: "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?"

The American Excuse

I came across this blog How to Live and laughed my lungs out with some of the funny encounters of American teachers in handling excuse notes.

My son is under a doctor's care and should not take P.E. today. Please execute him.

Please excuse Lisa for being absent. She was sick and I had her shot.

Dear School: Please ekscuse John being absent on Jan. 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, and also 33.

Please excuse Gloria from Jim today. She is administrating.

Please excuse Roland from P.E. for a few days. Yesterday he fell out of a tree and misplaced his hip.

John has been absent because he had two teeth taken out of his face.

Megan could not come to school today because she has been bothered by very close veins.

Chris will not be in school cus he has an acre in his side. Please excuse Ray Friday from school. He has very loose vowels.

Please excuse Pedro from being absent yesterday. He had (diahre) (dyrea) (direathe) the shits. [words in ( )'s were crossed-out.]

Irving was absent yesterday because he missed his bust.

I kept Billie home because she had to go Christmas shopping because I don't know what size she wear.

Sally won't be in school a week from Friday. We have to attend her funeral.

Please excuse Jason for being absent yesterday. He had a cold and could not breed well.

Gloria was absent yesterday as she was having a gangover.

Maryann was absent December 11-16, because she had a fever, sore throat, headache and upset stomach. Her sister was also sick, fever and sore throat, her brother had a low grade fever and ached all over. I wasn't the best either, sore throat and fever. There must be something going around, her father even got hot last night.

Please excuse Jennifer for missing school yesterday. We forgot to get the Sunday paper off the porch, and when we found it Monday, we thought it was Sunday.

Losers in Paris

Muzik Freak

Not totally and completely your music resident or addict, I just found myself repeatedly playing latest videos from LAUNCH, a Yahoo-based portal that offers free access to music, artist gallery and videos. When there are fast-rising artists and new musics on the block, I can't help but engrossed myself with these or else be left behind. Among those that I like from a number of videos that I've watched, the following made their way to my elite list:[But please, before you react, try to watch/listen first to these videos]

1. Beautiful Soul By Jesse McCartney. Hay, nostalgia came rushing back as I remembered my teenage days...

2. Somebody By Bonnie McKee. I really like her for sporting red hair.

3. Over By Lindsay Lohan. After I watched Freaky Friday, Lindsay totally rocks.

4. Lose My Breath By Destiny's Child.

5. Get Right By J.Lo.

Going Gaga Over That Coke Tune

Sana'y masabi
Sa awit kong ito
Lahat ng ninanais
Ng puso kong ito

Sana saan man
Patungo sa buhay
May pag-ibig, may pag-asa
May saya at saysay

Sana sa bawat sandali'y
Matikman pa
Sarap ng pagsasama
At simpleng ligaya

Tara na, sakyan lang
Malay mo
Nandyan lang, nandyan lang
Ang hinahanap mo.

Poverty does cause ignorance

A few hours back, we visited and conducted a seminar on Internet at the Notre Dame of Esperanza High School, a 30-minute drive from Tacurong. Excited, I prepared all the things needed and I also readied myself by reviewing my notes and the slides of my presentation. Of course, I don't want to be embarrassed in front of the participants when they raise questions beyond what I vividly know. I'm a bit nervous and shaky, although this wasn't my very first time to speak in a huge crowd, its just that I do expect a lot from the participants. I assume that they have ample, if not enough, knowledge about the topic and already acquainted of the Internet. Not until I stood in front of them and posed initial questions. It broke the nervousness out of me.

80% of the participants didn't even know what a web page or browser looks like!

I view Internet as one which could be easily accessed in a society that has been thriving resiliently to be at par with the first world society. Knowing how ignorant the people are in the Internet terms, the government has really took for granted the social development of the place by denying them their rights to information.

The seminar went on and we received a plethora of questions; all boils down to E-Mail, chatting and the like. Of course, we remain positive and we just did what we are supposed to do, to educate them in as much as we can possible perform. Hehehe, it was fun though we have frustrations in the first place, but we just took everything for fun.

New Book on my Shelf

Anyone who dares question his very purpose of existence requires to read this book that brings into light the answers some may find too disturbing. Rick Warren's Purpose-Driven Life
Rick Warren's Purpose-Driven Life is one great book Catholics should carry everyday. It's a book as powerful and ravaging as the Enola Gay atomic bomb as it contains vivid explanations about most of life's enigma and will eventually drive you from confusion to elucidation.
This book was given to me as a gift by my grandmother after she finished reading and reflecting on it. As of the moment, I am still at the third chapter as I am having difficulty looking for a partner and a decent place and time to indulge the book that promises to change my life, hopefully.

Philippine Movie Industry shines through

It has been a "panata" in the family to go out on December 25 and join the hundreds of Pinoys nationwide march the cinemas and watch the films participating in the annual Metro Manila Film Festival. This year's filmfest, I must admit, are bound with so much expectations, excitements and hope as well. Prior to this event, the movie industry has wept over the loss of the Fernando Poe Jr., hailed as the King of Philippine movie. So that they jumped into a sort of assumption that the filmfest will be greatly affected. Baka raw langawin ang mga pelikula. So Happy Together

But the hordes of moviegoers and the escalating revenue of theathers proved the aforementioned statement wrong.

So Happy Together ang naisip kong unang panoorin. Rating this film using the scale of 0 to 10, 10 being the highest, Im giving it 5.

Linux OS-The Alternative

Dare You To Move by Switchfoot

Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself
Lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before

On Starting Anew

This year would be a breakthrough year for me, for the following reasons:
1. That I will be graduating on March.
2. That for the last six years since graduating high school, finally I will graduate after taking up three courses and attending four schools.
3. That I will finally be joining the long line of graduates struggling to land a high-paying job.
4. That I will leave Mindanao.
5. And for that, I won't be spending much for traveling expenses during vacations anymore.
6. That I will turn 23 on August 19.

'Yun lang muna siguro ngayon.
